lagilman: coffee or die (pooh)

The flatscreen monitor that was supposed to arrive on Friday (which they then said would arrive on Wednesday, except I would't be home on Wednesday, so they said it would be delivered next Friday) arrived this morning.  I just happened, by sheer luck, to be home.

I hate Office Depot.

However, I looooooove my new monitor.  17" screen with an almost negligible footprint., lovely resolution, the right number of bells and whistles (to wit: one bell, two whistles), and Pandora can't sleep on it.  :-)

Now I just have to get used to using a mouse again (I've been working exclusively on a laptop for almost two years now, and I credit my touchpad with the reduction in hand cramps I used to get.  But if I can change off between machines, I should be fine...

.

Writing?  What writing?  I'm doing geeky new computer joy.  *geek, geek geek!*

It also helps if you can switch mouse hands -- I use left hand mousing at home, because at work I'm on a shared computer and so right hand mouse is mandatory.

You can buy a touchpad for a desktop--my hand can't deal with the shape of a mouse at all, so I went that route. They're quite cheap and easy to install. I found mine at OfficeMax, liked it just fine until I gave up on the desktop forever.

You might try a trackball if mouse movement gives you wrist problems. After injuring my right wrist, I switched to trackballs that are controlled with fingertip movement - ones with the trackball centered in the device, not thumb-balls. These let you control the mouse without tensing any of the muscles in your wrist.

I'm quite happy with my new Kensington Turboball, which I switched to because I needed a four-button mouse. The Logitech Marble Mouse is also good (two buttons only) and has a lower profile. Both of these are relatively cheap devices.

A number of years ago I found myself in a position where I needed a smaller footprint for my mouse. So I went out and picked up an optical trackball where the ball was used by the thumb. I fell in love with it. Takes a wee bit of getting used to, but now I can't imagine not using it at home. Just rest my arm and my thumb does all the work without any of that move, pick up, move, shift, move action with a mouse.

Hahahaha, my SO works for Office Depot, and they are suppose to have this thing called "Fanatical Customer Service." According to this, somone SHOULD have basically driven the monitor in their own car, paying for their own gas, and hand delivered it at your personal convinience. With a box of chocolates.

::laughs:: yeah, right.
