more on critters...
Mar. 29th, 2006 10:49 amfortunately, I know just enough about rabbits to know that they'd make me a terrible pet (they're fidgety, they chew on electrical and phone cords, and they're tasty) but OMG this thing's adorable...

I was also deeply amused by the description of the English Lop -- "The English lop...are often quite placid and friendly animals but could become fearful if handled badly. They require a large living area to prevent them from treading on their own ears."
Make your own Prince Charles joke at-will.

yeah, probably not a good idea. though our family had a bunny who lived more than 10 years, and he had an outdoor bunny "condo" with 2 closed in rooms and one open area. so if you *really* want a bun, you could...

Date: 2006-03-29 04:34 pm (UTC)This reminds me of the whole "pets or meat" sequence from Roger & Me. Ugh. But yeah, they are tasty.
However, they're also stinky indoor pets. My roomie down in Georgia had a sweet, lop-eared bunny, Buttercup, and the area in which the bun's cage was located was a toxic zone. If you could keep them in a hutch outside, however...

Date: 2006-03-29 07:20 pm (UTC)I do remember that back in the 70s, when wicker furniture was all the rage for young, single women's apartments, one rabbit ate it's way through two wicker chairs and a wicker laundry basket. It also used to chew on the electrical cords. My aunt always had to be on her toes to keep him from behind the TV. My dad always told her "Leave him alone. He'll only chew all the way through it once."

Date: 2006-03-29 07:32 pm (UTC)Rabbits make great pets! Of course, it's good to give them an entire room to run around in and to cover those wires...and not eat them (imagine somebody saying they wanted to eat your cat...)
Here's Buddha, our foundling (someone dumped her a few years ago in Liberty Park, and we took her in.) If you ever had a rabbit for a week, you'd know what great characters they are.
Let's see if my html works here...
If that doesn't work, oh well. I never liked rabbits as pets until this one found us, and then, let me tell you, I can't pass a rabbit without seeing its personality and hoping nobody eats it.
I guess I should never have a cow or a sheep for a pet, or I'll end up being vegetarian.

Date: 2006-03-29 11:32 pm (UTC)We do have a three year old chinchilla named Lucy. She's a bundle of energy! And she's cute and not stinky :)
Plus, I have to admit, I've never been tempted to eat a chinchilla *g*
