about to go head-down in Other Stuff, so to fill the space...

nipped from [livejournal.com profile] tina_jens:

If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don't speak often, please post a comment with a memory of you and me. It can be anything you want, either good or bad.

When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people remember about you.

*sits back with some trepidation, then gets nibbled on the ankle by manuscript and with a yelp, limps off to appease it*

I'll play. I remember your launch party for Staying Dead, at ... Arisia? Boskone? NorEasCon? Whatever. Some con in Boston. While the room next door served pan-galactic gargle blasters, you presided over a lovely scotch bar, offering tastings for all. And vibrated with excitement over the new book. (Of which I bought the last copy Pandemonium Books brought to the dealer's room...bwa ha ha ha!)

At a auction, San Antonio?. You dashing up and down the aisle generating enthusiasm.

Hugging in a green room somewhere, some time. You were on a cane that time.

Well, so far...there's only the one. Your signing at the Biltmore in the middle of August when the Sorta Beautiful People were all having vacations...I hope, at least, that you consider our f2f a benefit of that afternoon.
(I would want to kick publicity in the 'nads, but I may get my wish in the future when I have a mid-November signing in...St. Cloud, or something.)

My main memory is driving up with you to the Hartford AIDS Walk. One of the more amusing memories was when we both ogled a nice car... and then upon reflection decided that the driver wasn't bad looking either.

Being told you liked my Fu-fic. At that time, still only dreaming of turning pro, it was a valuable endorsement.

I remember your informing me that I would be writing my first x-rated fanfic story, and what it would be. Also your informing me that you needed a story for Otherwere immediately.

You've always been informative that way. And really, can there ever be too much information?

I remember handing you -- either that fanfic story, or the next, odder one -- at lunch, and telling you not to read it till I came out of the restroom and could explain. Of course, I came out and found you reading it.

"I told you not to read it! I wanted to explain!"

*Still reading:* "You don't need to explain. It's self-explanatory."

Without ever looking up from the page.

wow

we were standing side by side for the first time never having met. the largest white truffle I had ever seen was auctioned for ~ $112K. I tried to be clever and well....

all you said was "... wow ..." just barely under your breath... almost a sigh. most eloquent.

Cheers

I remember going to get bagels with you at one of the Phile Cabinets. I remember your insistence for the round robin that Frohike be spelled correctly.

I miss those days.

We've only spoken over the internet. So I'm going to go to best qualities you have instead. Eloquence, class, graciouness, talent, sense, kindness, good taste, intelligence, humor. There are no doubt more, but those are the ones sticking out to me right now.

Good times

Climbing about the rocks and trees of hilly Monterey Bay, and tasting wines in a nice little shop--and then I didn't buy the one wine I can't get back here!

(Stupid Texas shipping policy.)

We should try it again sometime. This time I ship wine home.

and your face when you first saw the Tapestries...

Preeeeetty...
Travis is getting silk ties from the Metropolitan Museum for graduation, and I wanted to get one with the unicorn but Nikki said he wouldn't wear unicorns no matter how historical. So he's getting ones with patterns based on a 12th century Rhenish plaque and a mid-16th century German chanfron (horse armor faceplate.)

Being in that agenting class with you at NYU, and then not seeing you again for several years. Then, hearing you were moving to Roc from Ace, and thinking, "Wonder if she remembers me?". Then looking up from my desk one day to see you standing in the doorway, smiling and saying, "Looks like we've both moved up in the world."

I remember first meeting you (and the other X-file folks) on GEnie when I can looking for info on what episodes to include on the video release of the first season of "The X-Files," Although some folks thought I was completely stupid and said as much (LOL), you were very nice and helpful (although you may have thought I was a bit clueless too).

The only time i can recall meeting you is at (last) worldcon. I went to some random panel, and tagged you as a person who said nifty and amusing things, and from there stalked you to other panels and the kaffeklatch, and hunted down your books once i got back home. Each con i find a new-and-nifty person with writing i enjoy, and you were it for that con. =P

There are many...

You and me propping F. Paul up on a car, wandering by later, and finding he'd slid a ways, but otherwise was still where we left him. Giggling as we zombie-walked him "home".
