So [livejournal.com profile] paleologa and I went for a walk around our neighborhood, to check out the Halloween scene. And man, is it hoppin! Kidpacks everywhere, ranging from babes in-arms (wearing adorable sleeper-costumes, natch) to the jr high and high school kids doing their best to look cool and cutting edge in the same old cross-dressing type costumes their parents wore back in the 70's. Or (ulp) the 80's. amd now I'm depressed.

What was really cool, though, were the houses. Major over-the-top decorating going on, from bats to skeletons to multiple carved jack-o-lanterns to total haunted house motifs. And one huge gothic-style house that had something going on that -- after a loud and spooky noise, had kids fleeing the front door shrieking in terrrified giggles. No, we didn't go check it out. Although I was tempted.

Oh, and many many cop cars cruising the streets. I suspect by 8pm or so, when the older kids have control of the streets, the cops will be even more overt in their prowling...

All in all, after too many years of low turnout and depressed statistics, a most satisfactory Halloween report.

I'm distinctly pleased that Halloween is being celebrated on Real Halloween this year. So what if it's only because the 30th fell on a Sunday? :)

I was also surprised to see a resurgence in kids and costumes this year. We didn't have any candy to give out because we spent the whole evening dragging the boy around.

We even managed to hit some houses. It was fun.
