lagilman: coffee or die (nap attack)

So, there once was a comedy club called Rascals, and it was just around the corner from our townhouse. So we went a lot. And it was good.

And then we moved a mile away, and somehow we never went much any more, and it was okay because hey there was comedy on tv, right?
But somehow, comedy on tv just isn't the same as a live show.

And then Rascals moved to another town, and then I moved to the same town, and I thought "I should go..." and I never did.

Well, tonight a bunch of us did. And while the host was deeply annoying (bring on the Host!), the opening act (name just out of reach of brain right now) and the headiner (Brad Lowery)were both damned funny (and I would have thought that even without the two appletinis I had).

The most amusing things about the opening act, however were a)that he looked like half the UK writers at Worldcon (the ones not wearing kilts) and b) how easily he sidelined his own routine to riff on a comment from a woman in the audience about yard sales. That impresses me, a comic who can stil think on his feet, and be funny.

Also on the subject of the funny, if y'all haven't gone over to amazon.com and read the 'Amazon Shorts' offering "Bit Players" by Esther Friesner and our own [livejournal.com profile] agamisu, why the hell not? .49 cents to read about love, sex, loyalty, and how it all comes second to the s/i/l/l/y/ g/a/m/e/ National Religion of Australia...
