List to change at the blink of an eye, but hey, it stayed there long enough for this eye to see it and be pleased. :-)

Today sees the end of Other Chaos and back to writing. This is an unmitigated Good Thing, and well past time. Good riddance, April. Welcome, May!

YAY!

w00t! Always good to see our girl on top. Even better to see her two out of the top three!

Congrats Laura, here's hoping it lasts.

WooHoo! Today Fictionwise, tomorrow The World--or at least The New York Times Bestseller list. :-)
Also wanted to add my belated kudos to the chorus for your STAR Workshop. The information was invaluable. Many, many thanks!
Cheers,
Jean Marie

Not too much. Really. I think most of the folks with a realistic understanding of surviving the writing life were already moving in the direction you led. The rest probably needed the tazer job.
Living costs money. Medical care costs REAL money. Over the past year I've seen so so many calls for help with medical bills on my romance and fantasy e-lists, it's painful. And I know what I've seen is only the tip of the iceberg.
Plus, the biz is groping for a new paradigm. That is always the worst time to be dependent on any industry. Freelancers--and that's what we all are with respect to publishers--must take a back seat to capital, profit and staff. That's not a complaint; it's a fact of life.
Which doesn't mean I still don't have LOTS of follow-up questions. LOL
- What steps can a writer publicize themselves without interfering with corporate efforts--or irritating the booksellers?
- Are different forms of publicity more effective at different points in a career?
- Is it better to sell fast or long?
- How can the writer maximize the benefits of both?
*But wait, there's more!*
Fortunately, they can wait. :-) At the moment, they're academic for me. Gotta sell the first novel--not to mention ship out the current batch of short stories and survive the 8-5 until Sept. 30.
Meanwhile, thanks for the CURSE THE DARK excerpt. It was a real Monday treat.
Cheers,
Jean Marie
