Bernard Ebbers has been found guilty on all counts. Conspiracy, fraud, and seven (7!) false SEC filings.

Apparently, during the trial he was reading one of those "How to be a Better Christian Man" books, causing the commentator to mention the fact that he considers himself a deeply religious man, with a Catholic University education on his C.V.

Maybe he should have stayed awake during those ethics classes?

Now the appeals process begins.

Ptui. And other exclamations of disgust.

(personally, I say he shouldn't serve any time in prison... they should strip him of everything save his skivvies, and set him to work at a minimum-wage job for the rest of his life. Hurt him with what he seems to value the most. THAT would be justice. "Didn't know," my aunt fanny. You're the boss. It's your JOB to know. Especially when you're reassuring other people that everything's fine.

Yes, I do have strong feelings about this case, why do you ask?)

My cousin worked for Enron for two years in the mid-90s. He cottoned on to the company being very badly managed (and he had suspicious about "crooked as hell" too) and bugged out as soon as he could get out of his contract. Also sold all his stock.

Sadly, my wife Stephanie lost her job as part of the fiasco. She worked for Andersen. The partner in Houston had a bad ethic rep in the company (he'd done some crooked work for Waste Management) but he "brought in too much money" for AA to fire him. Gaw. And so a great accounting firm bit the dust.

Up next: Ken Lay.

Unfortunately, he'll be sent to some fluff joint and manage to keep most of his ill-gotten gains. And vote Repub ... sorry, I start to foam at the mouth about this.

Maybe he should take some of Mike Milken's ethics courses ...

Y'know, about the only response I can manage right now is...

YES!

I knew eventually one of those bastards would be nailed to the wall.

I have some strong feelings on this myself.

Personally, I'd rather see him go to jail AND be stripped of everything save his skivvies. I'd like to see all of his accounts frozen, and him forced to start from scratch with a serious felony on his record when he does get out of jail so he can never be above poverty level for the rest of his life, and can never MARRY above poverty level. There should never be even a loophole by which this bastard should have access to more money than the average minimum-wage worker garners.

Hmm. I sense strong feelings hereabouts.

I'm more interested in the people whose 401(k)s were invested in Enron stock and who lost their jobs and their retirements.

I'd like to see these bastards have to make those people whole financially.

I'll see your ptui and raise you an eyeroll.

I love your correctional strategy. The punishment should fit the crime, right??
