Or at least, a rockin' brass section on the UWS.

Last night I sat high over the city, eating a Practically Perfect catfish p'boy, listening to jazz trumpet backed by a fabulous Big Band (specifically Nicholas Payton Big Band), watching the fog drift over the Manhattan skyline.

There are, y'know, much worse ways to end the weekend.

In addition to the music, there was some significant character-watching, as you don't get a 20-member band on a small stage without personalities coming to the fore. Much discussion afterward about one sax player in particular, who has already been integrated into a character in a forthcoming project (in fact, when I saw her, I thought, "okay, that's Y. Definitely Y. Wow, that's Y....")

Also, Anat Cohen, I think it was, on the clarinet? Whoa and wow. Sister can play.

Meanwhile this morning on the way home from the gym I was panhandled by the world's Cutest (and cheekiest) Squirrel. He came right up to me at the bus stop, put his paw on the toe of my sneaker, and looked longingly up at my slice of banana nutbread. Yeah, of course I gave in. How could I not?

(and meanwhile, everyone around me had whipped out their cell phones and were taking pictures. I may have to lurk on ICANHAZ for a while and see if I recognize my toe....)

oh yay

The revisions/rewrite of THE SHATTERED VINE (Book 3 of The Vineart War) is done, at approximately 115,000 words.

The book did not kill me after all. I win.

For those of you with a historical bent, you might appreciate this: April 23, 2008

Taking the rest of the night off. Tomorrow, I get to go back to PSI #4. Whee?
