the writing life: Letting It Come.

You start a story with a specific thing in mind. Along the way, some things change, are clarified, are cast aside. The specific thing remains clear, though; your driving force. Until you come to the end and discover... that wasn't the thing you needed the story to say, after all.

And that's okay. In fact, that's perfect.

My job is pretty cool, sometimes.



I'm not sure I'm going to make the midnight deadline for sending the story to crit, though.

autopsy of an average day:

5:30am -- Boomer's 'feed me, I'm bored, it's morning' yowls wake household. Household not amused.
6:30am -- Felines fed. E-mail and social networks checked. Grocery order placed.
7:00am -- Thunderstorm. Writer goes back to sleep for an hour.
8:00am -- Coffee, breakfast, more e-mail dealt with.
9:00am -- Word War check-in. Switch from coffee to diet coke around 11am.
11:30am -- Word War escaped with 2200 new words on Vineart 2 and a splitting headache. Time for shower.
noon -- E-mail. Phone calls. Puttering. Contemplate finding energy to do F_F_F topic of the month post. Reconcile bank statements, instead (ugh). Laundry.
2:00pm -- think about making lunch. Get chicken with cashews, instead. Om nom nom.
2:05pm -- Realize if I intend to submit story to crit group, I'd better put an ending on it.
5:00pm -- Realize that the ending isn't coming and there's other stuff to be done. But story feels tighter and more focused now, so yay.
5:30pm -- More social networks and e-mail.
6:30pm -- Felines fed. Human fed (a pseudo-gyro). Figure out ending of story, maybe.
7:00pm -- Start work on cat-herding sekrit projekt.
8:30pm -- Start evening writing session.
11:00pm -- Having written a grand total of 600 words on WiP#2, accept that not much more will get done tonight. Maybe I'll get to sleep by 11:30?
