lagilman: coffee or die (grail quest logo)
on the evening of October 26th, there will be a book signing at Books of Wonder in Manhattan between 5-7pm featuring Your Hostess (and, probably more importantly for most folks, Tammy Pierce).

from the BOOKS OF WONDER web site:

TAMORA PIERCE, LAURA ANNE GILMAN, & TUI T. SUTHERLAND

Meet three authors of suspenseful fantasy for teens and pre-teens. Joining us will be TAMORA PIERCE for her newest book set in the magical land of Tortall, Beka Cooper: Terrier, about a young member of the Provost's Guard who can speak with the dead and who may be the only one who can save her city from corrupt magic; LAURA ANNE GILMAN for Grail Quest 2: Morgain's Revenge and Grail Quest 3: The Shadow Companion, in which three young friends fight to protect Camelot and join the quest for the Holy Grail; and TUI T. SUTHERLAND for her debut novel Avatars, Book One: So This Is How It Ends, where five teenagers find themselves in a deserted world hovering on the edge of destruction. The authors will present and discuss their books, answer questions, and sign copies of all their works. 5 - 7pm.

This event is free and open to all. Please note that you are welcome to bring one book from home to be signed for each book you purchase on the day of the event. If you have any questions, call us at (212) 989-3270.
lagilman: coffee or die (behold the cute)
my new cell phone has a lot of optional ring tones (all of which I hate, so everyone is currently ringing to the Peanuts theme -- sorry, guys). One of their offered categories is "animal noises."

Hrm.

Boomerang perks up and looks around when housecat meows are played. Both Boomer and Pandora stand up and look around when a kitten-in-distress meows.

The roaring lion? Totally gets their attention, in an "okay, who let THAT in here?" way.

But the tiger's call is what freaks them out. Interesting....

And, what does a girl do with a new camera-phone? She takes pictures of her cats, natch. Pandora was regal and posed so beautifully she's now the cell's wallpaper. Boomer, alas, was mostly a marmalade blur, but I did get one shot of him looking puma-tastic. If I can figure out how to upload them to the computer, I'll share. Probably ad nauseum, and [livejournal.com profile] quarkwiz can return the catmom-mockery I gave her last weekend. *grin*
lagilman: coffee or die (bye-bye)
I am asked to inform those of you in the area who may have been waffling that, and I quote:

"Friday and Sunday memberships are $20, Saturday are $30. Or maybe Friday and Sunday are $25. Gets you into all programming, including workshops, plus the usual, plus whatever else we come up with. A Saturday membership gets you into all of that and the reception."

So you gots no excuse. ;-)

It seems that we will be sharing the hotel for part of the weekend with University of Maryland football players. I do hope none of them try to get jock-cute this weekend. I am in short supply of jock-cute tolerance...

Some changes in the schedule occuring -- I have been added to a YA panel Sunday at noon. Also, Saturday 9pm -- a 'clean up and dress right' reception co-sponsored by SFWA, at which I may or may not (depending on my mood) be wearing The Boots and Velvet (note to self: do laundry tonight).

And it sounds as though the Goob the Long and meerkat the short Road Show may be occuring after all. If you're coming down, keep a weather eye on the schedule and/or the bar.

and fkcu, I have to figure out what I'm reading....

where the hell did this week go?

also: note to self: when you work a 9 hour day, and the only thing in your stomach is some cheddar, a cibatta roll, and tea? Bad Things Happen. Don't do that again.
