Occasionally I get e-mail that just sort of brightens my day. This morning saw the arrival of one of them. A very nice, very funny letter from a reader named Amy, who related an amusing incident having to do with the Russian used in the series (nods to marinarusalka who is my guru, guide, and first-call in such things), and then went on to say:

"Wren is one of my favorite literary heroines ever. She's not perfect, much more realistic than some other urban fantasy heroines I won't mention. And I adore her sense of humor."

Retrievers #4 Update

Alas, my desire to name this book either FAINT PRAISE or BE DAMNED have been torpedoed by the marketing folk (silly marketing folk), although we're keeping BE DAMNED in reserve for later. So, pending any last minute change of heart, Book #4 is henceforth known as:

BURNING BRIDGES.

In a moment of levity, I have to observe that never have so many white girls cheered for the Indians since Randy Mantooth first appeared on the tv screen back in the 1970's...

and the news that David Stemple has lost his long battle with cancer, far too damn soon.

For those for whom the name is a known one, Jane reports that David asked that any memorial contributions go to Massachussetts Audubon or to the Library of Natural Sounds at Cornell University.
