lagilman: coffee or die (I'm in my happy place)
Or at least the press releases related to watching the skies, at http://www.nasa.gov/55644main_NASATV_Windows.asx

As they just said, "the baby is out of the womb, but we have yet to count the fingers and toes."

But the engineers, at least, are breaking out the cigars, as the probe has survived the descent and is still sending an "I'm alive" signal.

Now to see what information it actually shows us...

Update noon Eastern: *bounce bounce bounce* Okay, so right now they're just doing kissy-kissy among the organizations involved, but it's so pretty to hear them talk about how happy they are... space geek happies make me happy, too.

Note: "Auswalia." That amuses me. I don't know why.

RIP

lagilman: coffee or die (pissed)
Just received word that Kelly Goldberg, aka [livejournal.com profile] dgkgoldberg, has lost her battle with cancer.

I had feared the worst, in recent weeks, but the news is still a kick in the gut.

Folk, please join me in raising a glass of something pink and alcoholic to the dearest, most entertaining, most wicked-minded Southern redneck Jew to ever come down the pike.

She did not go gentle into that good night.

We miss you, kel. We miss you something fierce already.
