Well, got my copy, and a very handsome beast it is. Go thou and buy several dozen copies. Stories from Misty Lackey, and Sue Krinard, and [livejournal.com profile] kradical, and Sharon Lee and Steve Miller, and many others (20 stories, which makes it, oh, 70 cents per story. Nice pricing, no?).

But... when I went to look through the story, I noted at least two places where needful changes made in the proofs did not make it into the final version.

Normally I'd shrug and go 'oh well.' But these were changes specifically needed to bring the story into line with the novels, and I was assured that they would be made. So while I still love this story (it's "Overrush," which I read at WorldCon), my pleasure has been dulled by annoyance.

I hate that.

Especially since now I feel obligated to go through with my copy of the changes and see what else was not corrected. Grrr. Frustration.

(and yeah, I know, this means that when I do the collection of "Retrievers" stories, I can advertise the corrected text as the "author's preferred edition." Still annoys me now.)

But it's still a cool antho. And the story stands up on its own without the changes (they were mostly timeline things only the author and obsessive fans will note). Can't wait to get my mitts on POWERS OF DETECTION so they can sit side by side on the "Retrievers" shelf. Oy, I can't beleive I just typed that... *sheepish but pleased grin*

And lo, my reader's table from Levenger's (aka "the new laptop desk") has arrived. And been assembled. Mostly without incident.

And the verdict is: I can now work on laptop, keep drink/reference materials close at hand without worry, and still allow Pandora to crawl into my lap
if she so desires.

Is good. Am happy. Can recommend.

This weather sucks. I want autumn back!

[livejournal.com profile] karentaylor, I got the package. Lovely, thank you! Y''know, I think I'm going to become your business agent. I know way too many people who need similar boxes...

Pandora reacts to the smell of Selsun Blue like it was catnip. It's strange but really funny. If it's not your head she's mauling.

And, in other news.... CSI: Vegas. Winner and still champeen. Dude.

And yes, Grissom's still yum.
