Saturday was the final day of the Magic & Mayhem tour (thank god. Love you, [livejournal.com profile] kradical but I don't want to see you for at least a week, okay?). Started out with a stop in my hometown. Despite promising lots of PR, we only got a decent turnout, but sold a reasonable number of books, including someone who held off buying at WorldCon in order to stop by and support her local bookstore. Yay person whose name I'm blanking on!

My folks stopped by on their way to having brunch with old friends in the area, and bought a second copy to give away -- they understand that no, I can't just give copies away to all their friends and co-workers. My parents are both wise and well-trained. Mom also sent me, today, one of the most lovely snarky comments via e-mail about someone in the store, which proves that snark is both a genetic and a learned behavior. Have I mentioned that I love my folks?

Second stop was the Town Bookstore in Westfield. There was less turnout specifically to see us, but lots of easy-mark customers who walked in for something else and walked out with our books. All told, about 14 or 15 copies of Staying Dead and 5 copies of ReVisions. Ka-ching! Also, owner at Westfield liked what I told her of ReVisions and decided to order a couple of copies to push at her mostly younger customer base. *rubs hands together* Catch 'em while they're youngish...

Today we got my niece Chrissy and her S.O. Jose married off in the World's Shortest Religious Ceremoney (it clocked in at 11 minutes), followed by the expected Good Party. How good a party was it? The instrumentals played before the ceremony included "Nights in White Satin" and "Whiter Shade of Pale" and the recessional was Motown. That should give you a clue. *grin* I left before the tequila shots got going, but reluctantly (long drive home).

I met Chrissy when she was an adorable three year old, saw her through horrible (for us as well as for her) teen years, and the agony of what to do with her life, and into her becoming a strong, confident woman -- at least partially courtesy of Uncle Sugar. I admit to having gotten just a smidge sniffly...

And now I am going to fall over and try for a full night's sleep. Assuming Pandora ever quits with the "mom! You left me AGAIN!" snits...

And tomorrow, it's back to Work Mode. Writing to be done. Editing to be done. Invoices to send, and bills to pay...

from the Doonesbury page at Slate:

"Four hundred thousand people make some money trading on eBay."
-- Dick Cheney, on below-the-radar economic indicator

"If we only included bake sales and how much money kids make
at lemonade stands, this economy would really be cooking."
-- John Edwards

Y'know..... well, y'know. When even the die-hard vote-Republican citizens-who-can-still-think-unaided are shaking their heads and going "no, man, oh no..." and buying 'smoosh Bush' dolls, it's time for the GOP to dump their candidate, apologize to the entire country, and spend the next four years sitting in the corner.

Sadly, ain't gonna happen. Too many voting citizens seem to have checked their brains, their self-respect, and their ability to discriminate between Spin and Fact at the voting booth door. And don't think the GOP doesn't know it.
