Happy Fourth of July, fellow Americans!*

(or, as my sister said, "yo, dudette, rock the declaration!")

We had our party yesterday, with the usual massive amounts of food, booze and volleyball (less volleyball than previous years, as we're all getting old). It was also the "coming out" party for Keith DeCandido's DRAGON PRECINCT and my STAYING DEAD, as author copies were shown about and admired (and toasted with mimosas this morning).

Today, we're cleaning up and lazing about (well, the houseguests are lazing about, I'm writing) and, if the weather holds, will head out for the fireworks tonight.

May the day remain calm, peaceful, and celebratory everywhere the Stars and Stripes is raised....

*and before anyone gets their anythings in a twist, when Canada renames itself "Canada of America" and Mexico is "Mexico of America" then I'll stop referring specifically to citizens of the United States of America as "Americans." Until then, with all due respect, bite me.

As always, [livejournal.com profile] ginmar says it so very well...

addendum at 10:15. I do love fireworks. All you have to do is sit back and watch someone else make pretties for you. This is good. And they were such pretty pretties, especially the ones that look like fizzy gold waterfalls. And the ones that make like yellow-and-purple starfish. Preeeeeeeety.

Less fond of the ones that do nothing but go *boom* but this has always been my trauma. Pretties, yes. Loud noises, no. Except I think that the echoes of other towns' finales are cool to listen to, so go fig.

All over now for the year. *sad pout*
