lagilman: coffee or die (love is magic)
So I started work last night on a story that's been sort of scutting around in my hindbrain for a month or so, and it's doing that "well, I'm not sure what form I want to take yet but I'll keep talking so long as you keep typing" thing (or grafitti'ing, in this case). And while I was in the shower this morning it came to me.

Honor. And dignity. And reinventing your own myth.

So now I know the themes/form. Here's hoping the character doesn't suddenly get shy! Managed another chunk of it today, so I have hopes of finishing it by this weekend. Along with the chapter that's due according to my schedule, and the d.y.m.k. project, and the copy writing assignment I just got that's, amusingly enough, for a friend's book. Busy, busy, I'm going to be busy.

In other news, spent much of the day gadding about Manhattan with a friend. We hit the comics store (for her) and then had lunch (Croton Reservoir Tavern, near Bryant Park, very yummy) and then went to Bryant park and rode the carousel (me sitting sidesaddle on a horse, her on a rabbit) while Edith P. sang something mournful. Yes, [livejournal.com profile] agamisu, that's when she called you. French, and stale cigarette smoke, and us being silly. It sort of calls for your presence. But you ignored us. But we're not bitter. Much. (I did warn her you were Otherwise Occupied)

And then we did some research-sightseeing for Curse the Dark so I can describe a location properly, and then we were sucked into the Great Evil that is Parade Shoes. She wanted a pair of bright orange sandals they didn't have in her size. I got sideswiped by a pair of sexy-but-office-friendly high-heeled, toe-rounded pumps in bone. In my size. Which I needed. And which were on sale.

But I resisted the lure of the lycra black-and-white miniskirt (too cute) and the black lycra off-the-shoulders clingy-top (looked good neckline on up, but emphasized ribcage over breasts, which is Not A Good Thing, IMO). I sort of regret the flirty 40's style aqua skirt. But not enough to buy it.

Ever notice that shopping with a clothing-interested friend is so much more fun than shopping alone? And so much more dangerous?

*sigh* All that fun, and now it's over. Tomorrow, I lock myself in the office and get Serious again.
