helluvaweekend
Feb. 1st, 2004 11:14 pmSaturday afternoon, the hordes began to arrive for the kickoff to Superbowl Sunday, also known as Port Night. twelve people, lots of pasta, and an evening of desserts and port wines. In this case, a horizontal tasting of 1985 vintage ports -- "horizontal" meaning all the same year of bottling but from different producers). Fell into bed around 1ish. Got up around 8ish to start the coffee and greet the overnight guests (eight of the ten visitors) as they staggered downstairs. Started defrosting chili, etc around midafternoon, played poker for a few hours, and then watched a helluvagame.
Yes, that would be this evening's Superbowl. Helluvagame. Hotly contested,
back and forth leads, and right down to the proverbial wire. Gods, poor
Carolina. Never have I so wished that both teams could win.
And even though I didn't win any of the poool (one person won three quarters, damn him) I did clean up at the halftime poker game, so all's well. *grin*
And now, once again, the sounds of silence are heard in our house, as everyone
took off the instant the game was won. And not an instant too soon, as
Pandora had taken to hissing at anyone not me who came near her. She and
I. I think, both need a long vacation away from Other People.
(so of course I have a week of meetings and lunches to look forward to.
*sigh*)
And, in all of that, I managed to get almost 3,000 words of the new book written. 3,000 words I'm satisfied with, more to the point. That may not seem like a lot to some folk, but slow and steady gets the book done. Without leaving me wrung out and hung up to dry, or otherwise in no shape to do the other projects on deck. So I'm pleased with myself. Exhausted, but pleased.
