current winner: "Please, folk, don't dumb and drive." (once we go under a state of emergency, at 8pm, nobody's allowed on the roads unless it's an emergency)
runner-up: "If you have heat, power, and running water, please don't bother us right now." (speaking of the emergency lines, which are already being overloaded)
6" on the ground already, and we're supposed to get the really heavy stuff falling after midnight, for totals of 12-18" in this area, and up to 24" further north and east. And possible thundersnow. Cool! Not that I'll see/hear any of it here, but just the thought is cool.
Have opened a bottle of wine, and the smell of Things Cooking is filling the air. A good night to be home, warm, with work to do and friends on speed dial and IM...

Date: 2005-01-23 03:48 am (UTC)They just went by with snowblowers, trying to clear off the paths in the lull between storm fronts. Pandora lifted her head, identified the sound as "external, man-made boring" and went back to sleep. Boomer, without the years of experience, has insisted on waking up fully to defend against the Bad Noise coming closer. Or maybe he's waiting for it to get into range so he can pounce. Wh can tell with a Cat of No Brain?

Date: 2005-01-23 03:34 pm (UTC)So far we have anywhere from 11 to 15 inches on the ground depending on where you live. Here in NW Indiana, the sun is shining and it's STILL snowing. only upside is that this happened on a weekend! Supposedly, it's gonna be 40 degrees and RAINING on Wednesday. Yay, Midwest Weather!
I think at best estimate we have about 10+ inches, with drifitng up to 2 feet in some areas.
Last night we had what the Weather Channel describes as a "Snow Squall". Guess that means white out conditions for 6 hours and massive accumulation :)
Anyway.
Hope you guys on the East Coast are fairing better. Keep warm, my friends!!

Date: 2005-01-23 04:18 pm (UTC)At best estimate, we got about 12" here, but it's tough to tell, with the snow still coming down. And up. And sideways. Did I mention it's not only cold, but windy?

Date: 2005-01-23 04:52 pm (UTC)I think the blowing snow contributed to the higher measurements. I live right on the State Line of Indiana and Illinois (literally. It runs up the street in front of our house!)
We've got at least a foot on the ground. It's easier to see once people have been out snow blowing their sidewalks.
Feeling like a wimp here....
