movie report
Jan. 3rd, 2005 10:00 pmTook the night off to go see "House of Flying Daggers" at the local cinema.
Wow.
Plotwise? Seen it before. Visually? Musically? Quite astonishing. Well-worth the price of the ticket. And if you know anything at all about Asian/Indian dance and/or stage fighting, you will be damn impressed.
And there were so many small notes that took it from "very cool" to "duuuuude, cooooooool" that all you can do is make a bow of respect in the direction of the crew.
Even worth walking home in the rain. Without umbrella, of course. *shakes water out of hair, scatters hydrophobic felines*

Date: 2005-01-04 07:37 am (UTC)I think it comes out here (Australia) in February.
Of course, I like kung-fu stuff, and I like Zhang Ziyi, so it's a natural.
Also had to wait forever for Hero. Finally saw it in the theatre only a couple of weeks before getting the DVD from the States. {G}
Pretty correct
Date: 2005-01-04 10:01 am (UTC)The stone game got a little old, TBH. But the one in the bordello? Impressive.
The scene I like to call "super-Legolas" was so over-the-top, though, that it made me a little incredulous of the rest. By the time it got to "uhh, shouldn't the forest be out of bamboo by now?" my disbelief had descended a bit. :-)
Oh, speaking of walking home in the rain: how about that "fighting for hours... or was it days? in the snow"? Also (highlight spoiler, please) -

Date: 2005-01-04 11:40 am (UTC)Although I did wonder for a moment about the snow -- was that a metaphor? A way of saying that they would be locked in this combat eternally, damned for turning friend against friend, and betraying their other vows? Or was it just too cool-looking to pass up?
* on MR, I was okay with everything until the end, when I protested that the acoustics of the theater would not allow him to sing back to her audibly from the back of the auditorium. At that point my fellow viewers (rightfully) turned on me and went "now you're saying something doesn't make sense?"
