He had cancer, so at least we had warning that things were going downhill. We got another 6 good months out of him; he did great for a while, but eventually the meds stopped working, and the last few weeks he just got weaker and weaker. He seemed happy till the very end, sweet thing. (Though it always hurts so much to let them go, yeah.)
