The cats have been surprisingly good about the boxes and packing and weird Stuff happening in the house.  I mean, other than me constantly having to remove Castiel from an empty or half-packed box.  But life-with-cats never runs smooth, especially not when money is tight.  It's just a universal law, or something.

Although his glucose readings came back within acceptable ranges, the too-much-drinking-of-water continues, and attempts to get a urine sample from CatofSize have failed (seriously, how do people manage that?), so looks like he's back to the vet for an extraction. (TMI? Sorry!).

My poor middle-aged man. Although he's otherwise seemingly in good health, the spectre of CRF lurks, and it's not doing anyone's stress levels any good.

Dawn is always trying to mail or ship herself off, we've noticed -- ever since kittenhood.

But then, as you know, paper (papyrus) was invented by Bast, and since cardboard is pretty much "über paper," perhaps they just instinctually know that all cardboard belongs to them?

So when I had to do this with the dog, I was told to take her out on a leash (another person leading) and follow behind with a soup ladle to capture the pee. I do not thing this would work on cats. In fact, I'm pretty sure death by cat would happen before. I would also be curious as to how people capture cat urine samples.

We had a cat who was also diabetic and it turned out it was rather simple to get a sample from her - we just had to get out the cat carrier. When we picked her up and started to carry her towards it, she would pee. We learned to keep a container under her when we did this least she pee on us! She was a very cooperative cat as she would also pee if you put her in the litter box. I had a supply of urine test strips from the vet and would just stick it in the stream. I doubt any other cat would be this helpful.

Poor cat, and good luck and good thoughts for both of you.

If it helps, our vet said *nobody* on his patient list can get a urine sample from a cat at home... and then tried and failed to do it the hard way in his office! (Luckily, our cat proved to be the exception, but she is INCREDIBLY mellow and patient. I trained her to pee on command for treats, although it took a few days, and then I stuck a cup under her butt. She gave me a dubious look, but that was it.) So you're hardly the only one to have problems with that; he said dogs are easier, but even that's not guaranteed.
