So...somewhere online, a woman refuses to be a whimpering doorrmat to every presenting male, and 4chan creeps flip their shit and threaten violence? Do I have the cycle of events correct?

Is there anyone on 4chan who is NOT a misogynistic, violent creep? Or is it the breeding ground for them, like swamps and malaria-carrying mosquitos?

I sometimes wonder that myself. The entitlement and hatred they display is beyond anything rational.

Some of the younger men out there are woefully undersocialized. Two years ago I was teaching a group of very misogynistic 8th grade boys. Their attitudes at ages 13-14 were scary and creepy. You'd think they would know better, especially since the lower grades were just about opposite, but...they could have walked right out of 4chan.

I don't know that it's a breeding ground as much as it is an attractant. Just went and talked to the in-house Geek Culture Boy. He grimaced and pointed out there are a lot of posers in and around 4chan, and he knows perfectly decent people who visit the site. But he doesn't choose to affiliate with it (which says a lot to me) and he clearly doesn't think very highly of it. He classifies them as "obnoxious" and not even at script kiddie level. I like to think there's more of him out there than of these sorts. One hopes.

Unfortunately, when the attitude spills out and damages other (innocent) people in the real world because they had Opinions the 4channers dislike, "obnoxious" isn't quite the right word.
