Every year, the same set of fears raises its head:

will there be snow on Thanksgiving?

My family still has dire memories of the Turkey-Day Blizzard many decades ago, when the Long Island Expressway became the Long Island toboggan slide. Endless rows of cars, headlights barely cutting the thick white curtain, stretching from Montauk to Manhattan, with the occasional carcass or seven by the side of the road, red lights flashing around them. Much as I love snow, never want to do that ever again.

So far, looks like heavy rain on Wednesday (guess I'll pass on going into the city that day) and high winds on Thursday.

We can live with that, even if it will make the Macy's parade a bit problematic (beware low-gusting balloons! Which is less funny now, when it's happened, then before when it was just a joke).

But once Thanksgiving is done with, my favorite season is upon us.

No, not the holiday season.

SNOW season!

(mind you, I'm always quite glad to see the end of winter, too. But I'll worry about that in February)

Oh, yes the snow watch time is on! We haven't had snow on thanksgiving itself in ages - we've had heavy snow the day before one year when everyone was going to my brother R's for the day. We told my brother F - driving up from Iowa - that once he crossed over the river the roads would be clear. Because Wisconsin plows its roads better than any midwestern state.

We've had plenty of snow storms on the days after thanksgiving though. It took me 8 hours to get back to University one year via Greyhound Bus. At the end of the trip, my brother R was waiting for me. He was so concerned about me walking back to the dorm (only a mile, but the weather was so horrible), he drove through the bad streets to pick me up.

We're expecting snow here (N.D.) for Thanksgiving Day, and I look forward to that. Can only remember one year when we had a blizzard and couldn't get home (out of town) for Thanksgiving dinner.

Yes snow, with snow comes skiing and I love skiing, so much snowy goodness to the year ahead. At least that is what I hope for. :)
