From 21 November 2003. Nine years. There have been part-time jobs - some I've loved, some I've endured - but today marks nine years (and counting!) as a freelancer.

Huh. And everything I wrote, below? Still true.

For the whole of my entire adult career (15+ years) I've held the weight of other peoples' careers and egos in my hands. What I said, did and demanded reflected less on me than on them.

It was a job I cherished. One I was good at. And I'm going to miss it.

But now, for the first time in my entire adult career, I can do for me. My career. My writing. And not feel guilty, or that I'm somehow 'stealing' time away from other people who have first claim on my abilities and energy.

I think I'm going to have fun.
