One Must Mark the Passing of Years Somehow....

So, yeah, it finally came to pass. After dithering, and dithering and dithering some more, I walked into my salon of 3+ years, turned to Hatice, and said "all right. Do. Your. Worst.*" 

[She's been sort of whimpering about messing with my hair for, well, 3+ years.  I've been resisting because, well, my hair's always been perfectly fine, thank you.  But this past year I noticed the color's gone a bit...quiet.  And just because that's natural-to-aging doesn't mean it has to be accepted.]

The only rule was, the silver stayed. I've earned every strand, and since I'm not ashamed of my age, why cover it up? She agreed. After some discussions of Really Major Change, we went with "popping" my natural gold and copper highlights, chopped half the length off, and ended up with...



Which is exactly the natural shade(s) my hair was when I was 17.  With bonus! silvering.  So I'm kinda pleased.  But homahgod it's short, again.

And maybe (maybe, Hatice!) next time we'll go with scarlet.

(ETA: and yes, that is the photo of someone 15 days from 45.)  

*I should note that I went in to make an appointment.  H, knowing me far too well, said "we'll do it Right Now."

Hey, a week in Hawaii did wonders for mine- L. said that in a matter of days my hair went from dark brown w/ auburn highlights to mahogany to "Holy cow, I'm not sure that color's found in nature."

Hah, yeah, I can imagine A week under tropical sun, and my hair goes from brown-with-red-and-blond highlights to copper-with-caramel-undertones. This version, relatively speaking, is subdued.

I really need a tropical tan to pull off the tropical hair. And since I'm now alert to skin cancer threats... yeah, not happening any time soon.

It was a blunt cut just at my shoulders, so there was a lot more hair, there. :-) And that was... a while ago. As of this morning it was well below my shoulders (long enough that I had gone back to my default French braid out of necessity).

I started to silver around 40, but it looked like more blonde highlights, so nobody noticed. I thought, for a bit, about dying them over, but decided that I was far too lazy to deal with that on a regular basis. :-)

I fully intend to be a silver fox (vixen?).


Also, I joke that every silver hair has the name of a writer I worked with. Some of them get two hairs.

I started to silver at about 16. Never stood a chance. I used to home dye until I decided I was grey enough to start messing with colour. Now I get it done every 4 weeks and think about moving it up to 3 weeks but I can't afford it and besides I have better things to do with my weekends.

If I had red-gold hair, I'd do that too. Mine, however, is a mix of dark dark brown and silver, which was recently described as being "steel colored".

I'm not entirely sure what I want to do about that. Purple, unfortunately, is just Not An Option.
