yeah - I have certain conditions that, if they flare up, could land me in the hospital for a week or more, meaning I'd a) have massive costs and b) lose work-time to pay for those costs. Having catastrophic insurance for me is...well, a no-brainer. I may never need it, but if I do, I'd damned well better have it
(and that would hold even in a country where medical costs were cheaper. I'd still be out of pocket after meds, surgery, etc AND loss of income)
