Today (this week) is kind of crazy. I'm working on a novel draft and a short story. I'm trying to get organized for BEA next week (wheeee). I'm trying to get the apartment in shape for the BEA-related houseguests. There's some client work that needs to be finished up, and oh yeah, prepping FROM WHENCE YOU CAME and DRAGON VIRUS for their ebook releases.

And somewhere in there I need to think about what promo I'm going to do for DRAGON JUSTICE (PSI#4) which is out 1 August.... anyone have any ideas?

Promo ideas:

-- One of the things Seanan McGuire (http://seanan-mcguire.livejournal.com/) does is a countdown, where each day she gives her readers a piece of information from the world or the book that's about to be published. She also does a lot of ARC-giveaway contests, and holds book release celebrations at her favorite book store that involve not only speaking and signing, but also music--she's a musician and brings in several of her friends to perform with her.

-- She's also had some friends (semi-pro photographer and model) do a story-related photo shoot, and used the photos with the series of stories which were published online.

-- Several authors I know have put out trailer videos about their books. Cat Valente's Palimsest (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWmyamLrMKo) trailer is particularly well done. Personally, I think PSI books could do *very* well with this sort of promo--the story-related photo shoot could combine with this nicely.

-- This isn't specifically a promo, but Cat Valente has also put together (or had her many fan-minions do it) a sort of extravaganza event in NYC for a book release celebrations, which included performers of all sorts.

Sadly, I'm not a performer, nor do I have friends/fans who have the time/energy to volunteer such things. I write, and I snark, and that' about all I got. :-)
