"Lost" is, so far, Jurassic Survivor. Interesting cast, interestingly photographed, and maybe interesting plots.... I'll give it one more episode before I decide.

Hrmmm. It's not the original, no, but I'm liking it. Feels right. Sounds almost right (they're doing an interesting quietness in the background that's unnervingly effective). Looks right (if blue). Liked the plot -- nicely twisted. Quite like Sinise's Mac Taylor -- rough-edged, street-compassionate, but nowhere near perfect. Even before I knew what his background was, I could have guessed (ex-Marine). The way he spoke to the vic in the hospital, even though there was no way he could be certain she could hear him, was lovely. The other characters are going to need time to unfold, but Hawkes (the coroner) is already growing on me. I'll be there next week. And the week after. After that...we'll see.

And I do like the choice of theme song.

We have been assured that there are no dinosaurs on the island. :-)

I sorta like my Tv show plot premises to be at least a little believable. A plane suddenly dips a couple of hundred feet, the pilot (we must assume) never radios a "mayday," the plane (with all it's jet fuel not bursting into flames crashes on the opposite side of the island from the direction it was traveling I know this because, one of the beautiful people described what direction the plane was traveling in and saw where the nose of the plane fell on the opposite--lengthways--side of island) AND the fuselage somehow manages to land not in the jungle where it should have, BUT also manages to turn direction and land on a nice sandy beach so the beautiful cast of mostly younger people can escape. And on top of all of this, there's a "mysterious" monster/force also inhabiting this HUGE uncharted island.

It's Gilligan's Island meets Stephen King meets Airplane meets Survivor Meets A Brand New Life...

I dunno, it just doesn't work for me.

Oh, yeah, CSI: NY does anyone care that in NY Crime Scene Investigators don't actually perform "detective" work? They are not cops, except in name only.

Just once I'd like a TV show to be accurate in it's portrayal of CSI personnel.

The scene with the vic in the hospictal, as well as the closing scene in CSI:NY are prime examples of why I adore Gary Sinise. I can't think of too many other actors that could have done those scene quite as effectively.

Oh, and "Baba O'Reilly" for the theme is really a nice double-layered choice. Yankees fans get it. :)

(It was Paul O'Neill's walkup music for a long time.)

In New York, they're also called CSU, the Crime Scene Unit. There is no "CSI" in New York City. And you're right, they're all lab technicians, not detectives who go around questioning people.

I've only seen one or two episodes of the original CSI, but this season I will actually get to watch all three CSI shows every week! Yay!

I missed Lost because it was on against my beloved Smallville, which, since Buffy left the airwaves, is now my favorite show on television

Then you missed the part where they found the captain still alive, and he tells them that the reason they were way off course was because *the radio went out* and they turned around to go back to Fiji as a result.

No functioning radio means no mayday means no rescue that knows where they are.

I liked the fact that I didn't see the monster or whatever it is. It's scarier. Interesting show, but can it last 22 episodes without getting very bizarre?

Yeah, I must have been laughing too hard when that part comes up, and it sounds logical...

Except for one minor issue, once a plane "disappears" or goes off course or suddenly changes directions or doesn't arrive where it's suppose to, it sends up a red flag--especially these days. Contrary to populated belief planes just don't disappear into thin air and nobody says, "Oops Walter, we lost another one. Looks like you're going to win the missing plane pool."

And unless the instrument navigational system went out, there's no logical reason (except to make this lame plot sound plausible) for the plane to turn around...and this still doesn't explain why the cockpit (nose) of the plane landed in one place (and this after the tail came off) and the fuselage landed on the only "safe" spot on the supposedly uncharted island...Once all those things happened that plane would went down like a rock.
With or without radio, the plane has to land someplace, how's the pilot supposed to tell air traffic control he's in trouble? What a disaster it would be if a plane sudden;y showed up in a certain airspace, unannounced, and just decided to land...

Besides, in this era of exploration, it defies any logic that an island of that size would be "uncharted." especially in that region of the world.

And let's not forget the "mysterious" force that sounds like a cross between Predator and space aliens from HG Wells' War of the Worlds.

THe show is lame, and won't last until January.

I was only paying half attention to Lost, so all I can say is that (as an old Beauty and the Beast fan) I hit the ground laughing when someone growled in the woods and a little boy asked "Is that Vincent?"

Taped CSI:NY, will catch up with it tonight. The getting up at 5:30am thing makes it a pisser to watch shows that start at 10... Will be watching the tape of CSI & L&O back to back, am v. interested to see how they stack up!
