Yeah, we felt it up here. No trauma, no damage no danger, just a pause of "huh....okay that's what that was" and then an hour or so of Twitter check-ins and sarcasm and jokes. Y'know, how we usually handle things.

Things are a bit grimmer down in the VA/DC area, unfortunately, where there's some report of damages to (both modern and historic) buildings. Before anyone in California snarks, a) we've seen how you guys react when it rains heavily, and b) keep in mind that the building codes out here are a bit different...

Otherwise, we had a bit of excitement, but nothing that will keep us from worrying about Irene getting back to work....

I've heard of a few houses destroyed in Lousia (right next door to the epicenter). I'm about 20 miles from there, no damage here. But it went on for about a minute--which sounds more than what people felt a bit further away.

Also, because of the type of ground, earthquakes are felt from much further away and much more intensely. (New Madrid earthquakes 1811-1812 was in Missouri and was felt all the way to and nearly over the entire east coast (granted that was a MUCH stronger earthquake), but...

And yeah - fewer earthquakes different building codes but last I heard most of the building damage in the DC area was minor but that was within the first hour of the quake. I don't know if things have changed since...

The office guys from California were bored. The office workers from the East Coast... not so much.

Aside from a pounding heart, all OK @ home, with me, & with cats.

Hey, we don't snark over damage. :-/

And yeah, there are faults (and quakes) all over the country; ours are just the ones that everyone knows about. It means we're just more used to them and better prepared.
