Apparently, I had the wrong dates in my schedule. I depart the city not a week from Friday, but THIS Friday.

I do not panic. I have everything under control.

Really.

All I have to do is laundrypaybillswrite5kwordsarrangecatsittingdotheNYRSFreadingtonightedit3storiesdepositpaychecksmeetwithMadameEditrixsendImportantEmailspackickupcardrivetoBoston.... by Friday noon.

Piece of cake.

Cake with moar coffee, pls.

On the plus side, the apartment is booked, the flights are booked, so Rome in December is a Go. *does happy dance* "Two Jews walk into the Vatican on Christmas Day..."

[anyone looking to burgle the place while I'm gone? All you'll get is two affection-hungry cats, a printer, and a cheap TV. Sorry.]

(Eep. You broke my friends page.)

Thank goodness you noted the departure date now and not a few days time.

I've been considering my recent tradition of visiting two new countries each year, and have the slight problem that I've not visited any new ones this year. Since we declared a moratorium on staying away from home before November (on account of the new kittehs), it looks like December will be my last chance to preserve my record. So (yes, you've been wondering what my point was) my intention has been to pick off Rome and the Vatican State in December, neither of which I've previously collected.

If we were to be in Rome at the same time (not Christmas Day though, I'm expected to cook a family lunch), feel like meeting up with us for a lunch or something?

ah Rome at Christmas. Was surprised at how disappointing the Vatican's Nativity scene was. Large, yes but I've seen better quality at Wal-Mart.

On the bright side - the "burnt" bakery (the 200-year-old Pasticceria il Boccione) on Portico di Ottavia across from the Jewish day school, MADE my Christmas trip to Rome. Like Macroons? It is a MUST NOT MISS. In fact, some of the best food I had in Rome was on that same street.

Things always look better with a huge slice of chocolate cake. Here's one for the baker in you, courtesy of King Arthur Flour: http://www.kingarthurflour.com/blog/2011/08/07/favorite-fudge-birthday-cake-it-just-doesnt-get-any-better-than-this/ (http://www.kingarthurflour.com/blog/2011/08/07/favorite-fudge-birthday-cake-it-just-doesnt-get-any-better-than-this/)

Similar experience, though with a bit more oops than yours: we're going to Alaska next month. Everything BUT flights booked thru travel agent. SIL took care of flights personally b/c her spouse is extremely claustrophobic so she wanted to make the arrangements herself.

Tour package starts on Sept 7th. Flights booked? Sept 6th. Now need to find hotel space for night of the 6th.
