My mom is friends with Doris Vallejo.

Now, it's not really surprising: I grew up in Maplewood, which was where they lived at the time, too. And I think her son Dorian is about my age, although I don't remember running into him ever as a teenager. But...

It's still always weird when my personal and professional lives cross like that.

At first sight, I assumed that 'Doris Vallejo' was a typo for 'Boris Vallejo'. But that didn't make sense with the rest of the post, and I checked Wikipedia, and ...

OK, I would like to institute a new rule. Nobody should ever marry anyone else whose given name differs by only a single letter. Not, and take their surname.

Yeah, it always was kinda weird. And I seem to remember a Maplewoodian soap opera at the time, but my folks shielded us from all that (my "I don't WANT to know about your personal life, it's personal" is founded in deep Bostonian stock.)
