lagilman: coffee or die (just sayin' - Nate)

I went to bed at midnight last night and it was 80 degrees. I woke up at 6am, and it was in the mid 70's. It is now closing in on 10am - 80 degrees again, aiming for a high of 95. This is going to be our life the rest of the week.

And then it will rain on and off all weekend, bringing skin-soggy humidity into the equation.

Have I mentioned recently how much I am NOT a summer person?

You are not alone. I got bitched at last night when I came home and turned on the a/c [90+ for the high and humid and he'd had it off all day and it was 80 inside]. I got bitched at this morning about how cold he was when he woke up because of the a/c and how terrible it is that I "can't take a little heat." Dude, I don't WANT to "take a little heat" because it makes me cranky and I have a choice. He is also of the opinion that I get sick because I use a fan and let it blow on me. This is why I call him "Desert Boy" on occasion; that and he's Moroccan. It's 930 now and it's 80.

Well, in Seattle, we are experiencing what has been dubbed Junetober. This morning, for example, it's 51 degrees and cloudy. I wore a long-sleeved sweater to work yesterday. The highest it's predicted to go over the next seven days is 66 degrees, cloudy and rainy all that time which means it will feel colder with all the damp. Now, I'm not complaining about mild weather in the face of the onslaught you're dealing with but . . . well, I am. It's been dark and cold for months. I still have flannel sheets on the bed and it's freakin' June!

(Hey! If you move here, you won't have to deal with heat waves! And I certainly would welcome your presence.)

You and Charlie Stross both. There's a reason he lives up in Edinburgh.

I'm so with you. My SO is also going to be WFH tomorrow, and asked if that meant I was going to go to the office. I checked the forecast: high of 99. No effing way. So now I just have to *not* kill him tomorrow.

I know, I know. I have sinus crap no matter what, but irrigation is a wonder and me w/o enough sleep could be used by the military as a secret weapon. Especially if I wake up because it's hot and I'm sweating because SOMEONE turned off the a/c. NOT a happy camper.

I have loathed summer my entire life. I used to get heat stroke every year at least once, when I was living on the farm. I get blinding headaches from sunlight and always have. As I have gotten older my body has developed this whole "I'm going to be sick" sensation when I get too warm. As I got onto meds for my HIV that has now turned into a lightswitch, transitioning between ok and running for the bathroom. No inbetween time.

I am already warning the husband. There is no way on this planet we are not having a real, industrial strength, hooked up to a glacier kind of ac unit this year. I will lose weight, sure. I'll also be somewhat slowed by the incessant illness. But I will also go mad and I will find a way to slaughter people around me.

(twitch)

I do NOT miss humidity. Although the last couple of years they've been importing it here. Bleh. You SO have my sympathies. Beyond words.

I am also not a summer person. I hate heat. I hate glaring sunlight.
We need a club. (Possibly a real one, made of something heavy, to beat up all those people who say 'Oh, but you can't hate summer! It's lovely!' and weather people on tv and radio who say 'Another glorious sunny day'.)

A club!

It's 90 in the living room right now. I'm thinking we'll have to set up the a/c soon. I hate doing it because of the expense. On the other hand, my family might melt if we don't.

Thinking ... nope. Need the a/c.
