I was wondering a bit about the vests too.

That scene in Beckett's apartment was just brilliant. All judgey and emotional. Love it. But I keep wondering what did Montgomery put in place to keep everyone safe? Cause it didn't work. At all.

And I'm trying to figure out where they are going to go next. I hate the confession followed by the hospital sort of thing when she can't react. Gives her too much time to think and him too and frankly, I want to see what they are really feeling. I hope the writers don't fuck this up.

And that speechless scene with his mom!!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE

I'm wondering if Beckett is wearing a vest. My brain is just ::flails:: after that ep.

My fave scene, honestly? Was when Castle confronted Beckett at her apartment. Nice to see some tense interaction with them. Well done. That and the scene where Castle forcibly carried Beckett out of the hanger. Just...Heartbreaking. And totally agree about the Boys. I think Esposito has had his loyalty tested too much at this point. (First his old partner deceives him, then this.)

Too many thoughts to put down here. Still brain buzzy. SO GOOD. ::impatiently waits for Sept. 19th::

My immediate thought with Beckett is the old flask cliche. Granted, it was late when I watched it off of the DVR last night (I was busy as hell last night, give me a break), but I recall that flask in the office scene with Beckett and Montgomery feeling very "gun on the shelf", and that flask was going to come back later. Put the flask in an internal pocket of her dress uniform as a memory of better times, the gun hits it just enough to shock her unconscious, Castle has his moment, and fade to black.

I am not wholly convinced that Montgomery is in that coffin--but then, his family did look pretty broken up.

Loved the Castle/Beckett stuff in this one. Him carrying her out of the hanger, the argument at the apartment.

Lots of angst in this one, a most excellent episode!

It would be nice if it hit the flask, but there was a lot of blood on the glove of her right hand while she was on the ground.

And, wouldn't the sniper have tried to eliminate the reflection from his scope?

Also, the bit between Castle and Beckett's dad seemed like a fairly big scene that had very little impact later on.

Bet you a million bucks that Montgomery's mail didn't make to anyone yet... I bet that comes up the beginning of next season. He's going to send it to someone like Castle b/c he trusts him and he will be careful about giving it to Beckett b/c it will link to the person who ordered her mother's kill.

And the apartment scene was fabulous... omg so dark and raw and Castle being serious and emotional. I LOVE IT!!

I about screamed at the end. 1. I also thought "OMGWTFBBQ - Where is your vest?" I mean, she knew they were gunning for her, so COME ON!! and 2. I was shocked by the "I love you" but wondering if she'll remember it in her black-out phase... I mean, you know they don't talk about that stuff so the writers are going to drag out their conversation at least 4 or 5 episodes.

But it makes me wonder, without Kate in the field, will they push to resolve her mother's case in the begining few episodes so they can heal her and get her moving. Otherwise, that will be a pretty dull beginning. And they can't skip that even though they took like a "summer break" (what was it?) last season?

It's rather ironic too seeing as some of the articles I read through this season seemed to intimate that they weren't going to push the Beckett/Castle relationship too hard, to make it last longer and not get so involved with each other. Kind of like Bones. But I think they played it pretty well... they led up to it in the last few episodes. And I know Castle's mom wants him to go for it. :) She's been saying it all season!! LOL

Eegads I love Nathan Fillion and this show!!! But THREE MONTHS I am going to have to wait to see how this pans out. You know they can't kill her off, but still. Frustrating!

AAAAAAARRRGH!!!!

I LOVED him carrying her off too! Though I kept thinking: She's kicked the ass of so many guys... how is Castle getting away with it... but I think she was just in too much shock.

I think so... it's near Kate but she can't go nuts with it. And Castle has all kinds of kooky connections he can use to perhaps subtly figure things out behind her back, which will tick her off and create all that fun angst and conflict we viewers love, right? :) MUWAHAHAHA!!

Their writers are evil geniuses and I love/hate them.

I forgot Esposito's old partner betrayed him too. I wonder how that will play out for him - if he'll have increasing trust issues that will make it harder for him with Ryan. That would be interesting. Maybe they can do couples therapy as a laugh. :) (Their sudden fistacuffs yesterday left me hurting and shocked but it was understandable.)

It's funny because I had just watched that ep (The Esposito centric one) right before the season finale. (I'd just gotten my Season 2 DVD set yesterday.)

Kinda puzzle pieced right into his reaction about Montgomery very neatly.

I don't know... if they don't know it's going to Castle, he could have time to stash it in a safe deposit box. And does the bad guy even know what is being sent?

Here's my one thing though... who could Montgomery send it to so that it would make Beckett safe? I want to say Castle but then how would the knowledge that there is proof get to the bad guy?

*sigh* Four months... I thought it was three, but no... four months. It hurts! It hurts!! And the books are terrible so not good 'hold overs' til the actual show comes on. I'll just have to go buy Season 2 to watch while I wait for Season 3 to be on DVD. :)

What bothers me about the way this is evolving is that if I were the Evil Mastermind in this equation, I would long since have targeted and taken out Castle, because Castle has been the catalyst behind every breakthrough the good guys have made in the Johanna Beckett murder/conspiracy affair.

Which sets up a classic paradox: on one hand, the Evil Mastermind is diabolically smart and powerful, because he has escaped detection and justice for decades. But he is also catastrophically stupid, because even after Castle repeatedly demonstrates that he's a threat, the Evil Mastermind lets him alone and leaves him free to act.

I'm afraid Marlowe may have written himself into a corner here, and that killing off Montgomery may backfire on him in the long run. Because given what we saw in the finale, if/when the E.M. does go after Castle, either (a) the good guys need to catch him next time out, or (b) either Alexis or Martha will die to prove the E.M. is serious about hurting Castle. And if Marlowe thinks he can actually carry off (b) without completely losing his fan base, he is utterly out of his gourd.

But Castle being the true catalyst may not be realized. He only brought things directly to Kate and she keeps everything about her mom's case pretty close. Montgomery wasn't giving away any more secrets so I don't know.

You may have taken out Castle but you have an omniscient POV whereas we don't fully know what the E.M. can truly see. Kate's closest knit co-workers are all definitely on her team.

I'm hoping they resolve the whole thing with Kate's mom by the end of next season and let her get on with her life. It's pulled apart/brought together she & Castle enough and doesn't feel like it's letting her grow as a person. If it lasts beyond the next season, then it might start getting stagnent. (No matter what they do, hopefully it doesn't!) But they basically stated in this last episode that her character can't grow unless she works to go beyond the murder. So get beyond the murder... somehow. (Except, yeah, don't kill Martha & Alexis. The show would be finished. I completely agree.) But either have her accept she can't resolve it (which we all know won't happen) or resolve it, kill the bad guy, and go on to the next one.

I would tend to agree with LAG. Castle is under the radar in many ways because from the outside, he'd appear to be kind of a joke. And Montgomery has been protecting Beckett (shielding her at least) from the EM. I just have to wonder who the EM is.

He took the money and made himself what he is today, is what they said. A senator? A corporate leader? A mafia head? I'm thinking he is in the public eye in some way and ostensibly a good guy.

So I think Beckett is clean up. Or at least Don't Stir the Pot. Kill off all the three cops and her, and no one looks deeper. EM hopes. And if that doesn't work, kill the next lookers.

What's odd to me is the public way she's attacked at the cemetery. It's too public. I keep thinking it's staged to make people think she's dead. But then that opens up a can of worms in itself. Like the fact that she has to secretly investigate and I don't think that matches the tone of the show at all.

I didn't get to watch the ep until this afternoon, so I'm way behind the rest of you. Most anything I have to say can be summed up by my saying "What they said," because I agree! With everyone! That plus the fact that my thinking is sufficiently muddled that I can't be depended upon for much critical thought right now. But...::squee::! :-)

I've watched too much television. I called most of the ep correctly (and H50). The funeral attack was definitely staged to make the bad guys think Beckett is dead. Don't know if Castle was in on it or not, but definitely staged.

If it's staged, then I'm sure Castle isn't in on it. I don't think he would have said I.L.U. if he had been.

And staged could make sense... I didn't think of that. I mean, you would think she'd be wearing a vest b/c she knows they are after her so perhaps this was to protect her. Gets her out of the lime light for awhile. Maybe Montgomery did send the files to her... but no, that doesn't work. Hmm... *ponders*

It would be funny if she came back in disguise. :) Blonde short hair or something... wouldn't work, but it would be funny.

I'm really dying to know what they do with this because, like you and Laura said, they could really screw it up or make it work beautifully. They put themselves on a precarious edge.

How would you write it, Di? :) *evil giggle*

I like those options... torn between sitting at the hosital and waiting for her to wake up, or running off to go track down the evil mastermind based off of the docs Montgomery sent Castle (see what I did there?). ;)

I think E&R got to go off the rails a bit in the last episode. It's Castle's turn. Love sacrifices all... and all that. But I don't know. I see him as more of the voice of reason. He may seem like a playboy but he's still a father. Or maybe that's something the boys throw in his face. But I see the three of them working on the case on the D&L as they wait for the new boss... not trusting anyone.

I'm definitely ok with it if they keep bringing the darkness. Castle/Nathan Fillion has a gift for lightening moments without losing the intensity (see his entire few seasons for Firefly).
