I won't discuss what 9/11/01 was to me. My words remain on my website, for those who wish to read them.
This morning I turned on the radio and heard Ray Charles' version of "America the Beautiful" played when the Towers fell. This evening, I went to the Eagle Rock Overlook, where a memorial stands to New Jerseyians who died that day and, with many other people, looked out over the skyline and drank a toast to the ghosts of the Towers that stay with us.
I carry ghosts within me. But the scars are, finally, healing. The scabs have fallen away, and there is new skin underneath.
Forgive. Never forget.
Today was the last day of the Magic & Mayhem tour. The day was given over to the living, and going forward, and, well, the future.
I chose to do this, on this day. This was my memorial. I like to think that the ones we lost would have approved.
