sorry, baby squirrel

lagilman*sigh* The little squirrel I saw in the fireplace months ago never did make it out, despite my hopes. Discovered this while cleaning up after the new fireplace door installation guy.
I feel like hell now. Poor little starved-to-death baby. And I know getting him safely out would have been difficult and maybe dangerous to me, the way squirrels are even under the best of conditions, and yeah, they can bite through anything and he might have had rabies, and yeah, we did listen for him the next 24 hours and didn't hear anything so it was a reasonable assumption that he got out... but I still feel awful. Not helped by the guy leaving the curled-in-on-itself corpse for me to find and clean up. I understand him thinking 'not my mess' but he could at least have _told_ me. *sigh*
Silly. Just a squirrel. But I hate the thought of anything dying that way. Especially when I could maybe have prevented it by calling the ASPCA and having them try to get him out, and damn the inconvenience to me.
