I seem to hab a code.

Fortunately, today was an overcast rainy day, and I had a half-finished story to work on (that remains half-finished but more clearly thought-out, now). I also did laundry, and cooked up a cold-killing dinner of spicy merguez, the last of the zucchini, a few (hah!) cloves of garlic and a splash of red wine. I don't think it's healthy but I don't care. Nom.

There are things very nice about being in a place long enough you don't feel the urge to run around every single day, but can just Sit and Be.

Also, Shadow is not only sleeping with me now, but is leaving her stuffed rat on my pillow. I am taking this as a sign of affection.

You all should be glad I can't upload photos right now. Maybe I'll actually sort through them before I inflict them on you, once I'm home.

Skype is very nice. Time zone differences suck. Yes.

You know you've been in a country too long when the radio announcer in the background sounds like he's speaking English, but isn't.

Hqving finished everything else I could procrastinate with; there are 300+ pages of Vineart War 3 waiting for a final drafting pass this week. Errrk. Best get to't.

You know you're loved when you're presented with a stuffed rat. In this house, it's squeaky mouse who gets presented to us. Always a high honour.
Feel better soon.

Dutch station announcers often trick me - I have before now heard one, and wondered why I can't understand it, before realising I've ended up tuned to a foreign station. The rhythm can be right while the words are wrong.

A freshly dead one is also a high honour.

Live mice are more problematic. It's been a while, and we rather hope that three years of being an indoors cat may have broken Talia of the hunting habit, but she and Kosh would sometimes bring us midnight snacks/toys, releasing them under our duvet.

You did indeed.

When I was young, it was half rabbits that our then cat Della brought us (the other half being the Rottweiler's share).

She also came home once wearing what appeared to be a fur stole. Then we realised that it was actually a live weasel draped over her shoulders. Well, she was pedigree, and had standards of elegance to maintain.

I hope that you feel better soon.

::passes the tissue box::

Sorry, I'm holding onto the Nyquil; there's just enough left for me to use today and tomorrow.

Get well, and I'll try to do the same.
