Un Unrepentant Foodie Post
Oct. 2nd, 2010 06:15 pmOne of the things I promised myself before coming to France was that I would not fall helpless victim to the Great Carb Monster known as French bread.
The wine would be deadly enough, but bread sneaks up on you at all hours, in all places...
So I am pleased to announce that a dab of foie d'oie on slices of tart green apple is actually BETTER than the same on bread.
(shaddap. I didn't say I was going to deprive myself; just be careful)
Also; leftover basil gnocci, garden-plucked zucchini, several cloves of garlic, a scattering of porc lardon, mixed with olive oil, basalmic vinegar and paprika and cooked in a single pot, make an amazingly delish improv dinner. Amazing how much zuc I can eat in this manner....
I am now going to spend thr rest of the evening curled in the comfy chair, cat at my feet, and read until I pass out in a food coma. And drink red wine, natch, to deal with the cholesterol.
EtA: in case anyone ever wondered: no; I don't keep kosher.
