a day in the life...
Jun. 9th, 2010 05:41 pmWoken at 4 this morning by smoke detector informing me (in a rather loud feminine voice, with accompanying beeping) that it needed new batteries. The fact that I managed to find batteries (top shelf of the supply closet) and get on the footstool, remove the detector, change the batteries, replace the detector, and go back to bed without breaking my neck is nothing short of a miracle.
Despite that unfortunate start to the day, I was at my desk by 8, and discovered that I've reached the point in VINEART WAR #3 where all sorts of stuff is falling from my head onto the page, and I'm thinking, "oh, this is great, yeah that works, damn it, I didn't set this up at ALL in the first third...I'm going to have to go back and add X, and change Y, and slide A over to B...."
It never fails. And, in never failing, it always seems to work.
Writerbrain. It is a marvelous, scary, infuriating thing.
And then I had lunch, sat down to read a chapter of A Book I didn't Write... and fell asleep. And when I woke up, the momentum was gone. Still, 2200 words for the day, not too bad.
And so, as a reward, I let myself work on the Sekrit Proposal (yes,
sinboy, that one). Took a "cool shite and worldbuilding" proposal and turned it into a chapter-by-chapter breakdown with Actual! Story! Arc!. I think this may actually work....
And now I am going to pour myself a glass of wine (an '05 Fixin) and watch me some tv. 'Cause my brain, it is broken for the day.
