On Writing: The YA Sensibility... or lack thereof.

Note to self: When writing a swordfight in a YA novel, make sure that there's nothing in the scene that is....overtly sexual. Nevermind that the fight is between a beautiful woman and a teenaged boy. If you giggle in delight as you write it, it's probably not going to get past the editor...

Besides, the very fact of the swordfight's got to be subtext enough, no?

This was a little beynd subtext, as I realized as I was writing it. When they're locked, blade to blade, pressed up against the wall, sweating...

And isn't **someone else** supposed to do a slasher version of your highly successful and non-sexual work?
