Note to self: When writing a swordfight in a YA novel, make sure that there's nothing in the scene that is....overtly sexual. Nevermind that the fight is between a beautiful woman and a teenaged boy. If you giggle in delight as you write it, it's probably not going to get past the editor...

Besides, the very fact of the swordfight's got to be subtext enough, no?

Although can't YA have a lot more sexual subtext these days?

Middle grade, on the other hand ...

Yes well, you can save the original material for the extra-canonical unrated director's cut never-seen-in-theaters Volume 4 of the trilogy -- kind of like what's supposed to be in the legendary someday-I-will-score-a-copy-somehow Volume #11 of Planet Builders by the Robyn Tallis Consortium.

(Sheesh, was that stream-of-consciousness enough, or what?)

Don't they call this risque stuff "slasher fic" or something like that?

And isn't **someone else** supposed to do a slasher version of your highly successful and non-sexual work?
