There is a quiet sort of .. not satisfaction, but emotional calm in realizing that while it's not healthy to sit and take crap from people (especially when they refuse to explain why they are handing you crap, or say it's for something you never did), there are also times when even a well-justified gripe doesn't actually need to be aired.
Typed up and contemplated, yes. But then we have the delete button. And the difference between my choosing not to say anything and my not feeling like I'm able /allowed to say something is Really Really Important.
I've also had an (unrelated) minor breakthrough in understanding my own psychological need to write. There may be an essay in that. Or maybe not. Will have to think about how much it might annoy my mom. ;-)
Yesterday was lovely, spent having brunch with
divanoir and the Cute Puppy, then time in Central Park, which was gloriously in bloom but also incredibly crowded with tourists, and then dinner with my folks, followed by a dusk walk back through a much less crowded Central park, with the air filled with the scent of spring blossoms and green-growing-things. Thank god I don't have any local allergies (in New Haven, Spring was Sinus Hell).
Today I have to:
-(work on finishing) a project that's painfully but not problematically overdue
-go over a short story copy-edit
-write up a guest-blog entry
-answer interview questions
-write another guest-blog entry
-clear out the backlog of "SFWA Contact" e-mails
-do some editorial work
-finish a freelance job that's due tomorrow
Best get to it then, huh?
Avoidance Activities Achieved
- ran dishwasher
- dithered over website changes (okay, that's actual work, but still...)
- vacuumed rugs (new vac 2, cat hair 0)
- folded sofa-blankets and put them into summer storage (aka the linen closet)
- ate too many cashews. Mmmm, cashews.
