This is not an option.

If you do not now or never have gotten migraines? Get down on your knees and give thanks to whatever you may or may not believe in. I just lost almost three hours out of the day because I had no choice but to take painkillers and rest somewhere quiet & dark-- and this was a mild one, compared to the day-killers I used to get on a regular basis. Still feeling shaky and sick, but at least I can function (and work).

And now I am craving beef ribs. Hrm.

EtA: while I appreciate the advice and hope it's useful for someone - after 40 years I know my triggers and how to deal with the attacks, thanks.

Truth in Headlines, entry #432

self-awareness is a beautiful thing. self-mockery's a close second.

"Well, my cellar's full-up," I said to a friend this morning. "Of course, that's not as impressive as it sounds, since I can only store forty wines."

Friend: 0_0

Me: "Right. Point taken."

The Glamour of the Writing Life

I figured out what was wrong with the current short WiP. I even know how to fix it. And I will fix it. Today. Even if it means doing nothing else. Except the laundry. I really should do laundry.

*goes off to do laundry*

Migraines suck.

As for truth in headlines, how's this one for you? Completely truthful, at that. Skywalkers in Korea Cross Han Solo (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/05/03/AR2007050300374.html).

Somebody seriously loved writing that headline on the skywalkers.

*sends ice packs for the migraine*

Just on the basis of that craving, there is some correlation between iron deficiency and migraines/headaches. Have you noticed stuff like that at any other time?

The line of:

"And the absence of any site for the serious consideration of serious books is also a fact of the web."

makes it really hard to take "The Book" seriously.

Considering the vast, vast amounts of information on the web, I'm fairly sure there's at least one stubborn intellectual laboring to review and talk about those "serious books" they're so concerned with. (I'm sorry, "with which they're so concerned.") If they didn't find a serious enough site, it was because they weren't taking the internet seriously to begin with.

My daughter's migraines are usually the result of cheating on her diet--a little more chocolate than she should have eaten, fresh pizza (something about fresh bread triggers a headache), raspberries.

There are also environmental and hormonal triggers.

Migraines are indeed hideous things.

If your migraines are sinus related, regular use of neti pot can help a lot.

Unavoidable environmental stuff. Ick.

And random? Ickier.

I hate migraines, but mine have mostly gotten shorter as I've gotten older. Not less frequent. Just shorter. So there is hope ahead. Some, at least.

I am incredibly grateful that getting good computer chairs at work and at home seems to have put paid to the monthly migraines I was getting for a while. It would be hideous if I were still having ones like I used to have during this horrifically stressful, short-handed school year.

Beef ribs, hmmm? Have to think of that next time.

Do you get yours during seasonal transitions? That's part of mine, pretty much spring or fall, not so much winter or summer.

I understand you're not looking for migraine advice & that you know your triggers, etc. Just wanted to tell you that the drug that used to be Imitrex and goddawful expensive has gone generic and is much more reasonably priced now. It's not a painkiller, works pretty quickly, and doesn't leave you with a migraine hangover.

If you've already tried it and I'm just bugging you, apologies.
