Word is that Larry (yes, Larry the bookseller Larry), who is apparently the WFC 2010 chair, declared that only "coastal elites" wanted online registration, and other people were trying to convince him that this was a pretty stupid attitude considering that most of publishing is based on the coasts. Making the online registration matter more complex is his not liking Paypay and also being unable or unwilling to use his bookselling credit card processing setup to deal with online payments.
At this point, I'm also concerned by the fact that the web page hasn't been updated since May 16th and no hotel rates (as you mentioned), no GoHs and no details on the con committee. This does not bode well.
Since I was planning on attending this year, I wish they'd get their damned act together.
