No matter how hard I work at the crafting, no matter how many times I study the plot and consider the crosslines, no matter how well I research or how deeply I world-build...

A book, once written, will never match the dreams I had at the beginning.

That's normal. That's natural. The failure isn't in not capturing the width and breadth of your dream, but only in not trying to bring the dream to life.

And each time you try, you're further along than you think.

------------------------

I spent Black Friday reworking some proposals Madame Agent and I had discussed, and sending them back to her so she'll have something to harass editors with before everything shuts down for the year (vacation? Not so fast, children. Get back here!)

And me, I have December waiting for me like this tightly-wrought, well-through-out plan that is just waiting for the first engagement to go utterly, awesomely awry. Tonight, I go to bed early, with the last of the Nero Wolf dvds, and a mug of tea. Yes.

[also, despite [livejournal.com profile] quarkwiz's ebil enablement, I did NOT buy the half-price Wüsthof Santoku knife. Um, yay?]

Ah, Nero Wolfe was a great show. Hmmm, I know I've got my DVD set around here somewhere...

I think I need to print this out and tape it to my monitor (and my mirror and my laptop and perhaps even staple it to my forehead).

And half-price Santoku?

ACK! No! Must. Resist!

Half Price WUSTHOF santoku? And you passed? You have way more willpower than I...

Like Arthur Machen famously said about writing, "One dreams in fire and works in clay."

Unyay. That's a nice knife. I'd have bought it. (But then, we know how vulnerable I am to others' enablement. *glances at jacket*)
