Well, that's one way to rile the vote...

WASHINGTON, Feb. 24 — President Bush said today he supported a constitutional
amendment banning gay marriage, declaring that such a measure was the only
way to protect the status of marriage between man and woman, which he called
"the most fundamental institution of civilization."

In an announcement fraught with social, legal and political implications,
Mr. Bush urged Congress to act on the amendment quickly and send it on to
the state legislatures. Quick action is essential, he said, to bring clarity
to the law and protect husband-and-wife marriages from a few "activist judges."

How DARE he? In this world of fear and hate and violence, how DARE he say
that any loving relationship of two committed people should be illegal?

Shut him down. Tell him no. Tell him to get his personal morality the
hell out of other peoples' lives.

If he thinks heterosexual marriage can be threatened by other people having
the same rights, there's something wrong with his perception of marriage...

The Constitution was meant to PROTECT, not discriminate. Remind him of
this.

It's not a question of "gay's rights" here anymore. Because, as the world learned in an earlier generation, if you don't stop them when they come for others, who will be left to stop them when they come for your rights?

I could've sworn prostitution was the most fundamental of civilized institutions.

Bush and his handlers are dangerous, frightening people, and we've got to do whatever possible to get them out of office this November. Thanks for the phone numbers. I'll call.

Amen!

Ever since I was old enough to understand just what 'gay' and 'lesbian' mean, I have yet to hear an argument about why same-sex couples shouldn't marry that made any sense to me. Thankfully the Ontario government and federal government don't seem to be in any rush to do something to stop gay marriages here. Of course, considering the courts' determination that it would be against the charter of rights, I doubt they could.

Ah well, in Canada the attitude is mostly along of the lines of 'as long as they aren't hurting anyone and it makes them happy...'

Another friend of mine, [livejournal.com profile] annathepiper, wrote what I thought was a very fine letter to the President, and I'm planning on using it as a basis to write to my Congresscritters. It's here if you're so inclined.

Apparently his announcement that we should go to Mars didn't get him enough press.

Let's send HIM to Mars and then quarantine the planet.

Oh, wait, it would be cruel to isolate the man. So let's send Cheney, and Rumsfeld, and Wolfowitz, and Laura too!

Well, he has demonstrated one clarification--that he's a total asshat. Of course, he's been working on that for far more than four years.... :wolf growl:

Marriage as an institution has been done more damage by Newt Gingrich and Brittny Spears than it has by any loving, committed, adult couple who happen to be of the same gender getting married.

That's this tired old fart's opinion anyway.
