Second Chances, Bookwise (a reader reacts)

Usually Google Alerts tells me, each morning, where the latest pirated torrent of my books has popped up, and not much more (yeah, great way to wake up, I know). But this morning it gave me a much nicer gift.

Do I wish I got every reader on the first go-round? Of course. But as I said in this week's Practical Meerkat, every reader brings their own lunch to the picnic. If you're not ready for a book... well, books wait. I'm just glad - for whatever reason - that she gave STAYING DEAD another try, and the second time was the charm.

[remember, readers: for every nice thing you say about a book, somewhere an author gets her wings! Or at least another dose of courage to push forward on her revisions]

and now, based on how many typos I had to correct while typing this, it's time for me to get some coffee...

Does one thank reviewers for good reviews? Is it considered good form?

One concept that I absolutely adore is Dean Wesley Smith's idea of the obsolescence of the "produce model" of books/publishing: "Books don't spoil. They don't go bad. They're there for you when you're ready for them."

I love that.
