lagilman: coffee or die (naptime)

Monday I had originally planned to do a day-trip to Another Part of Dublin, and then catch up with people at the Dead Dog, but when I woke up that morning I was feeling decidedly lazy and not-touristy. So instead I went back to sleep, then got up and did a casual stroll through the various stores I'd made note of earlier, looking for something to bring home.

What I've discovered recently, however, is that there really isn't anything I need and most of the things I want are either Major Purchases (a new fridge, vacations) or not really things at all (stencils for the overhang, etc). So I browsed happily, and then checked online to see if anyone had responded to my plea for directions tot he Dead Dog.

*facepalm* Pconners are wonderful human beings, but never ever let them give you directions. I finally found the pub by dint of asking a postal worker. As usual, I'd been walking around the street for 20 minutes. Another bit of proof that Dublin and downtown Manhattan are Sister Sites.

The Porter House is wonderful, the Dead Dog was wonderful (as someone said, there might have been more people a the dog than there were at the convention!) and dinner afterward with Diane and Peter was also wonderful. I toddled back to my hotel around 8, packed, and thought I'd fall over.. and instead was up until midnight because hey, on Dublin time, now! *sigh* Managed to fall asleep, woke up on time, was showered and double-checking when I had to catch the buss... when I remembered that my flight had been pushed back and I actually could have slept another hour.

Oh, screw it. I got to the airport early, had breakfast, and read until my flight was called. I have to say, I've never been patted down/had my bag searched AFTER I was through the gate and about to get on te plane. Wasn't just me, either: everyone went through it. Not sure what was up with that...

Once again my travel karma kicked in and the plane was barely half-full ("sit anywhere you like," the captain said, "although we'd appreciate you choosing window seats to make our competitors think we're full capacity.") which meant that once again I had an entire row to myself. I was good, though. I worked on the three essays I owe to people, um...today. Or tomorrow morning, anyway.

Home in near-record time, to two Very Annoyed Felines, who have not gone more than a foot from me since I walked in the door. In fact, when I stop petting Pandora long enough to type, she looks up at me with a wounded, accusing look in her green eyes. Probably a good thing I'm day-tripping Lunacon, or there might be a revolt...

All photos will be up at my flickr account in the next 24 or so.

And that concludes the Dublin Reports.

Welcome home!

Security--I wonder about that. It sounds very similar to what we went through at Schiphol a year and a half ago.
