I really wanted to post about the Nebulas, and yesterday's post-Nebulas runaway to the coast...but Dreamwidth still won't let me upload photos and display them?  I have to post them somewhere else and then use the URL?

This is... not convenient, and more than a little annoying.  Does everyone else have this problem or are they just throttling me for their sadistic entertainment?

Huh. I've not tried to post pix directly to DW, just posted at my website which then mirrors here.

And then the next post on my reading feed is James Nicolls's review feed, with a book cover and link to his review blog. So it must be doable...but how?

I've been using Flickr for the last ten years, but I tried the DreamWidth photo gallery and it worked for me. Maybe you could go through each step and indicate where things went wrong, starting with the upload images to Dreamwidth page? I use a laptop, not a smartphone, that might make a difference.

You have pictures in your DW gallery, so far so good! Each image will be given a number by DW, right click on the picture in the gallery that you want to embed and look at the URL in the address bar at the top of the browser window. For the example I'm using below, I've copied the code for one of my uploads to the DW gallery and modified it. You write in the number for your picture at both spots that I've typed 999 and write what you want where I typed "write alt text here" and "title of photo here". If it's a gif image that you've got, then replace the .jpg in the 999.jpg with .gif

<a href='https://lagilman.dreamwidth.org/file/999.jpg'><img src='https://lagilman.dreamwidth.org/file/640x640/999.jpg' alt='write alt text here.' title='title of photo here'/></a>

That will give you the usual blog-friendly size of 640 pixels on the longest side. DreamWidth can give you up to 14 different sizes. The code for the full sized version of my picture looks like this:

<img src='https://frith.dreamwidth.org/file/434.jpg' alt='Twilight Sparkle winged cake figure next to horse hoof.' title='Twilight and Hoof' />

Well, it works easily for me. I just go to my DW gallery, click on the bar with the number 100 in it, and choose the size I want. That changes the code in the "Thumbnail Embed" field. I select and copy that code and paste it here:

Twilight Sparkle winged cake figure next to horse hoof.

This does involve having another tab open to my gallery while I reply here. It's not as easy as choosing an icon.

If you can't find the code menu in your gallery, it does look like doing it by hand is your only option. Sorry.

Well, crap, that's annoying! I've not tried to do photos yet, but this seems rather a PITA.
